Reading: Animal Whisperer
Back to ListAnimal Whisperer
You have always possessed an intuitive connection with animals that others lack. Where most see beasts to be feared or tools to be used, you see individuals with their own personalities, fears, and desires. You learned to read the subtle language of animal behavior -- the flick of an ear, the tension in a stance, the meaning behind different calls. This gift has led you to work with animals in various capacities, and the bond you share with creatures of the wild often proves stronger than any chain or cage.
Ability Score Adjustments: +1 Wisdom or Charisma, +1 on any other ability
Skill Proficiencies: Animal Handling, Nature
Tool Proficiencies: None
Languages: You can communicate simple ideas with beasts. You can understand their basic emotional states and intentions, and convey simple concepts like "friend," "danger," "food," or "follow" through tone, gesture, and body language. This is not a language and doesn't allow complex communication.
Equipment: A set of traveler's clothes, an animal training kit (treats, clicker, leash), a small cage or carrier, and a belt pouch containing 5 gp
Feature: Call of the Wild
Once per long rest, when you are in wilderness terrain (forest, plains, mountains, swamp, or coast), you can spend 1 minute calling out to local wildlife. A beast native to the terrain appears to assist you -- the DM determines the specific creature, but it should be CR 1/4 or lower, or CR equal to one-quarter your level, whichever is higher (rounding down). The beast remains for 1 hour or until reduced to 0 hit points, and will follow your basic commands. It acts on its own initiative.
